Airline Users say chubby''''should pay more

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Should airlines charge overweight passengers if they need an extra seat? Yes, according to three quarters of travelers polled.

A survey by the Internet travel site Skyscanner (www.skyscanner.net) found that 76 percent of people believe that airlines

should charge a "tax on obesity."

Only 22 percent of the 550 people surveyed disapproved of the creation of an extra fee for overweight passengers.

The survey was conducted after a heated debate that began after he released a report earlier this month mistaken about that Air France was planning an additional charge to passengers who do not fall into a normal seat.

Since 2005, Air France offers passengers the option of overweight buy a second seat with a 25 percent discount.

One of the founders of Skyscanner, Barry Smith, said the so-called "tax on obesity" is a very sensitive issue for airlines to be treated with care not to alienate passengers heavier.

"On one hand, it is not unreasonable for airlines to charge passengers more if they occupy more than one seat. On the other hand, many would say that should be the responsibility of the airlines adjusting their seats of normal size, allowing facilities to house den all passengers, "he said in a statement.

Some of the respondents to the survey said it is the responsibility of airlines to ensure you have seats in all shapes and sizes of the passengers, while others suggest that payment should be calculated according to weight more passenger luggage.

In the U.S., Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have a policy in which if overweight passengers must purchase a second seat, puden demand their return if not busy.

The Supreme Court of Canada ruled that the obese and disabled people who travel on airplanes can not be forced to buy a second seat.
