The researchers believe this may be due to the way in how brain connections are organized, although they concede that more studies are needed in this field to draw definite conclusions.

It is estimated that almost one in every hundred people is ambidextrous. The study examined the development of 8,000 Finnish children, 87 of whom write with both hands interchangeably.

Ambidextrous Children 7 and 8 years of age were twice as likely as their colleagues of having skilled learning difficulties and general language in school.

At 15 and 16 years old, also had double the risk of having more severe symptoms-and-Syndrome and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, the study notes.

Research director, Alina Rodriguez, explained that the test results do not mean that all children are to have difficulties ambidextrous.

"We found that ambidextrous children and adolescents were at higher risk for certain problems, but we want to emphasize that most of those studied had none of those difficulties," he said.
